Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Gezhouba Group No.2 Engineering Company Limited (Chengdu, Sichuan), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), received the Bid of Award from the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing) for the civil construction and metal structure installation of the upper and lower resources at the Fengning Pump Storage Power Station on April 1, 2014, according to an announcement from the CEEC on April 8.
According to the Bid of Award, the scope of work includes the dam and seepage control works of the upper reservoir; the upper reservoir inlet and outlets works for phases I and II; the emergency shutdown gates for the intakes tunnels for phases I and II; the headstock building; the guard room and patrol facilities for the upper reservoir; the first highway and roads around the reservoir; the lower reservoir; the sludge disposal reservoir; the lower reservoir inlet and outlets works; and gate shafts for phases I and II. The total contract value of the bid will be about $1.87 billion, and the total construction period will be 63 months.
The Hebei Fengning Pump-Storage Power Station is the largest pump-storage power station to be planned worldwide. It is located about 62 kilometers from the downtown area of the Fengning Manzu autonomous county of Chengde city, in northern China's Hebei province.
The power station has a total planned capacity of 3,600 megawatts (MW), which is to be built in two phases. Six pump-storage hydraulic turbine generating units, each of 300 MW, will be built in Phase I, with a total investment of about $1.6 billion.
The Hebei Fengning Pump-Storage Company Limited (Chengde, Hebei), a subsidiary of State Grid Xin Yuan Holding Company (Beijing), with joint investment from Hebei Provincial Construction and Investment Corporation Limited (Shijiazhuang, Hebei), is responsible for the project's development and future operations. Hydrochina Beijing Engineering Corporation (Beijing), a subsidiary of the Power Construction Corporation of China (Beijing), is responsible for the design and engineering.
Phase I received approval in July 2012, and construction kicked off in May 2013. Phase II received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration (NEA) to begin pre-stage preparations in March 2014; it is expected to receive final approval and begin construction in 2015.
