Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Construction is expected to begin later this year on the University of Kentucky's Biomedical/Biological Sciences Research Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The $67.2 million project will be the cornerstone for future research and educational facility development. Gilbane Building Company (Columbus, Ohio) has been awarded the construction management contract for the project. The new research building is scheduled to be complete in 2004.
The new center is comprised of a 185,000 square foot building that will house interdisciplinary laboratories, accommodating advanced research and graduate education in molecular and cellular biology, vaccine development, and other related fields. The structure will also be home to a new Neurosciences Institute, including the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center. Among the other features in the building are centralized Autoclave, Centrifuge, Tissue, and Cell Culture and Animal Care Areas. A central utility plant and electrical substation will also be built.
