Great Lakes Ethanol Breaks Ground on $80 Million Fuel Ethanol Plant in Michigan

(Adrian, Michigan) has begun construction on a new $80 million fuel ethanol plant in Adrian, Michigan. Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 50 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will convert about 17 million bushels of corn annually into the renewable fuel. The plant will also produce an estimated 145,000 tons per year of dried distiller’s grains, a by-product of ethanol production used as a feed additive.

The company selected the consortium of Delta T. Corporation, TIC (Steamboat Springs, Colorado), and T. E. Ibberson Company (Hopkins, Minnesota) to build the plant. Construction is expected to take about twelve to fourteen months to complete. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 22, 2005; however, actual plant construction is not scheduled to begin until the middle of September when the final water discharge permits are approved.

Once the facility becomes operational, it is expected to create about 37 full time jobs.

Great Lakes Ethanol, L.L.C. was organized as a Michigan limited liability company on May 29, 2003, for the purpose of developing, building, and operating a dry mill ethanol plant in southeastern Michigan. The state currently has one operational 40 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant located in Caro, Michigan. That plant has been online since November of 2002. An additional project is being developed by The Anderson Incorporated in Albion, Michigan.
