Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Green Power Solutions LLC (GPS) (Hazlehurst, Georgia), a subsidiary of Beasley Forest Products (Hazlehurst), has advanced plans to construct Georgia's largest biomass power generation facility in Dublin, Georgia.
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal announced plans last week for the project, saying "Georgia is increasingly becoming a go-to location for biomass-based energy ventures, so we are encouraged by Green Power Solutions' decision to choose Dublin and Laurens County for this innovative renewable energy plant."
The project is now awaiting permit approvals to move forward with construction. The decision is expected to be made before the end of the year. If all goes as planned, construction on the $95 million plant could begin by the third quarter of 2013 and be generating power by early 2015.
GPS' 56-megawatt biomass power facility will burn 1.2 million tons of wood and other biomass material to fuel the plant. A 20-year agreement is in the works to sell its electricity to Georgia Power (Atlanta, Georgia), a subsidiary of The Southern Company (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia).
The plant will be located at the SP Fiber Technologies Paper mill on Papermill Road in Dublin, which is about 60 miles northwest of Macon, Georgia.
