Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Greenleaf Biofuels Processing Incorporated (Guilford, Connecticut), a privately held biodiesel start-up and distributor, has received $1.3 million in state grant funding to proceed with the next phase of development on a new biodiesel plant that will be located in the harbor in New Haven, Connecticut.
The plant will utilize cooking oil and yellow grease, and the company is in talks with a national rendering company for additional feedstock supplies. The New Haven harbor will provide the company with a key distribution location close to existing petroleum distribution terminals and barge transportation. The company will market to the home heating oil markets in the area and provide biodiesel blends used as transportation fuel.
The plant is expected to increase capacity to 20 million gallons per year.
BioPure Incorporated opened the state's first biodiesel plant in Bethlehem in July 2006, and an additional 50 million-gallon-per-year plant planned by CT Biodiesel LLC (Harrison, New York) is expected to start construction in New Haven this summer.
