Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In one of the largest Metals & Minerals Industry projects to start construction in North America in 2016, Grupo Simec SAB de CV (Guadalajara, Mexico), a subsidiary of Industrias CH SA de CV (Tlalnepantla de Baz), has started site preparation work for a $600 million steel mill in Apizaco, Mexico. The new mill is designed to produce 600,000 tons per year of Special Bar Quality (SBQ) large round blooms, large diameter bar and wire rod. The mill is being built near the company's 400,000 ton per year Tlaxcala Steel Mill, which began operations in 1972.
Danieli (Buttrio, Italy) will supply all of the equipment for the mill. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2017.
Danieli, recognized as a leader in minimill technology, has been involved with several steel mills in Mexico. Earlier this year, Gerdau Corsa SAPI CV (Mexico City), a joint venture between Gerdau SA (Porto Alegre, Brazil) and Aceros Corsa SA de CV (Tlalnepantla), started operations at another Danieli supplied mill in Ciudad de Sahagun, Mexico. That mill is designed to produce one million tons of steel per year.
