A Valero (NYSE:VLO) barge will deliver residual fuel oils in all grades to the brand new terminal.
The terminal, which has been under development since December 2010 and is located on the Houston Ship Channel, has roughly 40% of its 7.1 million-barrel capacity ready to take in liquids. The remaining capacity is expected to be available by March 2014.
The estimated $400 million project was built by construction firm Chicago Bridge & Iron (NYSE:CBI) (The Woodlands, Texas), with Stanley Spurling & Hamilton Incorporated (Houston, Texas) providing civil and structural work.
The terminal consists of a 3,600-square-foot barge dock and two smaller, 1,800-square-foot docks and bridges. The storage includes three 400,000-barrel tanks, four 320,000-barrel tanks, 13 200,000-barrel tanks, 24 100,000-barrel tanks, and eight 50,000-barrel tanks.
Additional companies that will store liquids at the terminal include Unipec USA, Glencore, Tauber Oil, PetroChina (NYSE:PTR), BP plc (NYSE:BP), Mercuria and Rio. A 900,000-barrel storage expansion is expected to begin in late 2014.
