Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Beijing, China)--Following final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on October 10, 2013, site preparation for Jiangsu Huadian Qishuyan Power Generation Company Limited's (Changzhou, Jiangsu) 930-megawatt, gas-fired cogeneration expansion project at the Qishuyan Power Plant has progressed smoothly. Preparation work, such as site levelling, geological surveys and experimental piling, has been completed, according to a recent announcement from China Huadian Corporation Jiangsu Branch (Nanjing, Jiangsu).
The Huadian Qishuyan Power Plant, located at the river bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in eastern Changzhou City, in eastern China's Jiangsu province, is an old power plant initially built in 1921. The power plant has two 390-MW and two 220-MW gas-fired cogeneration units in operation. The current expansion project comprises two sets of 465-MW, combined-cycle cogeneration units, based on M701F4 heavy frame combustion turbines. The units are to be manufactured by Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan), with technology introduced from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited (MHI).
As reported, the project will adopt advanced low nitrogen oxide (NOx) burning technology, together with a selective catalyst reduction (SCR) device for NOx control. Compared with conventional coal-fired power, the project could reduce the emission of 638 metric tons sulfur dioxide, 1,281 metric tons of NOx and 1.1 million metric tons of CO2 every year.
In January 2012, the project received approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation. East China Electric Power Design Institute (Shanghai) was selected for the design and engineering of the project.
So far, the tendering process for the main equipment of the project has been fully completed. Construction of main powerhouse is expected to kick off shortly. According to the schedule, both units of the project will begin operations in the first half of 2015. Upon completion, the total installed capacity of Huadian Qishuyan Power Plant will be expanded to more than 2 gigawatts, (GW) with annual power output at more than 8 billion kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to about one-quarter of total power consumption in Changzhou City.
