Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The environmental impact assessment report of China Huadian Corporation's (Beijing) 800-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle expansion project at the Qishuyan Power Plant was submitted to and accepted by the Ministry of Environment Protection (MEP) recently.
The Qishuyan Power Plant, located in the east of Changzhou City in eastern China's Jiangsu province, is initially built in 1921. The four 7.5-MW, small, coal-fired units built 60 years ago were shut down in 1999 and removed in 2002. The two 25-MW condensing units, 12-MW back-pressure unit, and 12-MW pumping type unit built in the 1970s to 1980s were shut down in 2002 and removed in 2003. The two 220-MW, coal-fired units built in 1993 were shut down in 2008 and removed in 2009. Presently, the power plant has a total installed capacity of 1,180 MW, including two F-class, 580-MW, gas-fired, combined-cycle units commissioned in 2005, and two E-class, 200-MW, gas-fired cogeneration units commissioned in December 2011.
According to the development plan, the short-term goal of the power plant is to have four F-class, gas-fired units and four E-class, gas-fired cogeneration units with a total planned capacity of 2,480 MW. In January 2012, the National Energy Administration preliminarily approved the power plant to carry out pre-stage preparation for the expansion project. Later, the feasibility study report for the Phase II, 800-MW, gas-fired expansion prepared by East China Electric Power Design Institute (Shanghai) was completed.
As reported, the expansion project will be furnished with two combined-cycle units based on the M701F4 gas turbine by using natural gas imported from the Huangniba-Qishuyan Power Plant pipeline, a branch of the nation's west-to-east natural gas transmission pipeline. It will be performed by Jiangsu Huadian Qishuyan Power Generation Company Limited (Changzhou, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation. Each combined-cycle unit will have one gas turbine with a rated output of about 260 MW; one heat recovery boiler; and one steam turbine generator unit in a single-shaft layout. The total combined-cycle output will be about 400 MW for each unit.
