Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--While Idaho is known for its scenery and potatoes, the state also is home to a strong industrial base, hosting several projects rooted in the technology fields, although the Food & Beverage Industry also features prominently in the state's activity. Industrial Info is tracking more than $26.6 billion worth of projects that are presently under construction in Idaho, with most of this investment coming from one the largest projects underway in the U.S.
That large project comes in the form of the expansion of a semiconductors plant, bringing more than $20 billion in estimated spending. Micron Technology Incorporated (NASDAQ:MU) (Boise, Idaho) last year launched an extremely large expansion of its Boise campus, adding several buildings and new production lines. The project will not be complete for several years. During this time, general contractor Exyte US Incorporated (Plano, Texas) will lead construction of the project, which includes a 600,000-square-foot building for a clean room space, a new water treatment facility, a new gas plant to separate oxygen and nitrogen from ambient air, as well as a new administration building, fabrication building, central utility building and more. The construction will house a new production line for the company's latest chips, which will be used in a range of cutting-edge sectors including data centers, the automotive industry and mobile devices. Construction is expected to last through the end of the decade. The project represents the first of Micron's planned U.S. investments following the passage of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 and is the largest private investment ever in Idaho, according to the company. One of these semiconductor end markets will have a new location in Idaho beginning early year. Meta Platforms Incorporated (NASDAQ:META) (Menlo Park, California) is building a grassroot data center in Kuna, on the southwestern outskirts of Boise. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed early next year and involves construction of two buildings: a 60,600-square-foot administration building and a 415,500-square-foot data center building. The facility is expected to begin operating at the start of next year, following which Meta plans to launch construction of additional data halls and structures in three subsequent phases. All four planned phases of construction would result in about 960,000 square feet of building space and an $800 million investment. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the related project reports.
A project to expand e-commerce giant Amazon.com Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) growing footprint also is underway in Boise. Amazon's Project Dove is nearing completion and is expected to be completed in the coming months. The 1 million-square-foot facility will serve the sorting and distribution needs of the Boise area, featuring 98 loading docks and an additional 390 trailer-parking stalls. The University of Idaho is underway with a couple of projects in the Food & Beverage Industry. In Minidoka, the university is underway with both phases of construction of a grassroot dairy processing and development center that will house 2,000 cows as well as manure lagoons and equipment to reduce methane emissions. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Food & Beverage Project Database can learn more by viewing the related project reports. The university is nearing the completion of an expansion and modernization of its meat slaughtering and processing science center in Moscow. The project adds another U.S. Department of Agriculture-certified meat slaughtering and processing plant, increases the space and visibility of the retail area, and modernizes other existing structures. Meat and dairy aside, Idahoan Foods LLC (Idaho Falls, Idaho), the manufacturer of several popular potato products such as instant mashed potatoes, shredded potatoes and hash browns, plans to complete construction of a new potato dryer at its Idaho Falls plant by the end of this year. The new belt dryer will add 50,000 pounds per day of capacity when completed. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
Idaho Power Company (Boise) is ensuring adequate power delivery for its customers in the south-central region of the state by constructing an 11-mile transmission line between Hailey and Ketchum. The second 138-kilovolt line will carry power nine miles on new wooden structures overhead and two miles underground. The project began in 2023 and is expected to wrap up about a year from now.
