India's solar equipment-manufacturing sector has struggled to get off the ground. In hopes of better attracting developers and investors, state-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India is revising the tender specifications for its first solar-power project with its own equipment-manufacturing facility.
Following two failed attempts, India is offering a new tender for 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity, under which developers would be allowed to set up a solar-power plant adjacent to a manufacturing facility. However, unlike the previous proposal, the plant will no longer be required to use self-produced modules.
Industrial Info is tracking more than $75 billion worth of solar-power projects in India. Click here for a list, and see graph below for a breakdown by state.
