Indian Oil Corporation Seeks to Overhaul Diesel Hydrotreater at Barauni Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (New Delhi, India)--Indian Oil Corporation Limited (BSE:530965) (IOCL) (New Delhi) has planned a 35 day maintenance and inspection shutdown at 125,600-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Barauni Refinery in Bihar.

According to IOCL sources, the 44,000-BBL/d diesel hydrotreater unit will undergo maintenance and inspection during this planned shutdown. The overall cost of the turnaround has been pegged at $7 million.

The turnaround is scheduled to begin in May 2013. The major activities that are to be carried out in the diesel hydrotreater unit include tray replacement, exchanger cleaning, heater pigging, reactor maintenance, bundles changeover and catalyst changeover.

The diesel hydrotreater unit at this facility has a turnaround cycle of 16 to18 months for catalyst changeover. The other units that will be completely derated during the shutdown are the sulfur recovery unit and amine recovery unit, along with associated utilities.

Apart from this shutdown, major turnaround activities also have been lined up for the year that will entail major capital expenditures for the upgrade of primary units like the delayed coker and crude distillation units. IOCL is modernizing the facility to conform to stringent environmental standards and to enhance the current gross refinery margins.
