Indonesia to Reinforce Mineral Export Ban in 2022, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to strengthen its ore export ban, following two years in which it was relaxed. The ministry says that the country's miners have made progress in developing their smelters, and it plans to fully resume enforcement of the regulation. Its goal to fully prevent exports of unprocessed mineral product by 2022.

The ministry has already revoked temporary export permits for mining companies that failed to report any progress on proposed smelters or downstream plants, and it is closely monitoring existing projects from other miners. Indonesia aims to construct 30 more smelters by 2022, as it aims to develop the country's downstream mineral industry and curb its exports of its raw minerals to other countries.
