Attachment Among the largest planned projects is a large solar project in California. 8minute Renewables LLC (El Dorado Hills, California) is in the late planning stage for the 500-megawatt (MW) Eland 1 solar farm near Cantil, about 75 miles east of Bakersfield. The facility will be built on 2,652 acres of unincorporated land and will include five solar arrays utilizing ground-mounted, single-axis photovoltaic panels. The project also includes constructing an energy storage system and transmission lines to connect to an existing substation. The project is set to be completed in the first half of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Oregon also is seeing its share of solar projects. Among these is Obsidian Renewables LLC (Lake Oswego, Oregon) planned 120-MW solar farm near Fort Rock, near the center of the state. The project is the first part of a development that could total 600 MW in generating capacity. Construction is set to begin soon, with completion set for next summer. Swinerton Renewable Energy (San Diego, California) is providing engineering, procurement and construction. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $198 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Wind power also features in the region's planned project activity. BayWa AG (Munich, Germany) plans to begin construction on the 102-MW Strauss wind energy project in the upcoming quarter. The facility will be near Lompoc, California, near the coast, about 160 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The windfarm will have 30 wind turbines, ranging in capacity from 1.79 to 3.8 MW. Strauss Wind LLC (San Diego) is providing engineering on the project, which is expected to be completed next summer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) is planning a repower project at its Vansycle II Windfarm, near Helix, Oregon. The project will repower 43 wind turbines by replacing turbine blades and nacelles. Construction is set to begin soon and is expected to take about a year to complete. Tetra Tech Incorporated (NASDAQ:TTEK) (Pasadena, California) is the consultant. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) have lately become a hot item, and Industrial Info is tracking a few of these projects that are planned to kick off in the West Coast region in the upcoming quarter. Accompanying its solar farm in Fort Rock, Oregon, Obsidian Renewables will build an 80-MW BESS facility. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego) is in the late planning stage for a proposed 30-MW BESS facility at the Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego. Construction is planned to begin by the end of this year and be completed in first-half 2020. Renewable Energy Systems Limited (Broomfield, Colorado) is the contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Several transmission and distribution projects are planned for the region, including the Bonneville Power Administration's (Vancouver, Washington) Hood River-Bonneville transmission line rebuild in Oregon.
