Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Iraq's South Refineries Company (SRC) has delayed the completion of the Basra Refinery Expansion Project due to documentation issues with the project's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm.

SRC and other parties involved in the project are attempting to sort out the issues at the earliest and plan to complete the project by late 2023. If the issue persists, however, the project completion could be delayed until next year.

The project aims to expand the Basra Refinery capacity from 220,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) to 280,000 BBL/d. The expansion includes a 70,000-BBL/d crude distillation unit (CDU), a 6,000-BBL/d isomerization unit and a 1,445-BBL/d liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) recovery unit.
