Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--JFE Steel Corporation (Chiba, Japan) finished rebuilding the No. 6 blast furnace at the company's Chiba Integrated Steel Mill on January 13.
The revamping process, valued at about 43 billion yen (US$332 million), began last September and helped to stabilize the furnace's operations. The furnace's volume remains unchanged at 5,153 cubic meters, and adjacent equipment has been updated to extend its life. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Metals & Minerals Project Database can learn more in a detailed project report.
JFE Steel also is developing carbon-recycling blast furnaces, which are designed to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 50% from the current process. JFE Steel is building a 150-cubic-meter pilot blast furnace at the Chiba facility and plans to conduct test runs before 2026. Subscribers can learn more in a detailed project report.
Industrial Info is tracking about US$2.4 billion worth of active projects at plants owned by JFE Steel. Subscribers can click here for a list of detailed project reports, and click here for a list of related plant profiles.
