Japan's JFE Steel to Build Pilot-Scale Carbon-Recycling Blast Furnace

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--JFE Steel Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) plans to construct a 150-cubic-meter carbon-recycling blast furnace with a methanation apparatus in its Chiba Integrated Steel Mill to conduct demonstration tests related to carbon neutrality.

Carbon dioxide recovered from blast furnace gas will be synthesized with hydrogen to produce methane. JFE Steel plans to use the methane as a reducing material in the blast furnace.
