Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--JBS USA (Greeley, Colorado), a subsidiary of JBS S.A. (Sao Paulo, Brazil), is finalizing the addition of a refrigerated warehouse at its existing pork processing plant in Marshalltown, Iowa. Construction began last spring after the city agreed to re-zone the site. The $25 million addition is expected to be operational this spring.
The new facility, which will be adjacent to the existing 380,000-square-foot pork processing plant, will include a 150,000-square-foot refrigerated building with cooler and freezer spaces. The design-build contract was awarded to Gleeson Constructors LLC (Sioux City, Iowa). Preston Refrigeration Company (Kansas City, Kansas) was retained to design and install the refrigeration system.
When completed, the new facility will enable the company to free up space and eventually increase production capacity at the existing plant. The Marshalltown facility processes 18,700 heads of hog annually and packages approximately 35,000 boxes of product daily.
