Researched by Industrial Info Resources East Asia (Kofu-shi, Japan)--Kansai Electric Power Company Incorporated (TYO:9503) (Kanden) (Osaka, Japan) has announced that it will be lending counterpart Tokyo Electric Power Company Incorporated (TYO:9501) (TEPCO) (Tokyo) crude and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to help it overcome fuel shortages. Currently, 14 of TEPCO's 17 nuclear reactors at three separate nuclear facilities are offline, representing 12,297 megawatts (MW). In addition to offline nuclear facilities, approximately 9,800 MW of thermal power, fired primarily via LNG and fuel oil, remain offline as well.
The following TEPCO power generation facilities or units are currently offline:
- 4,698-MW Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station; Okuma, Fukushima prefecture
- 4,400-MW Fukushima Daini nuclear power station; Naraha/Tomioka, Fukushima prefecture
- 1,067-MW units 2, 3, 4 of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power station; Kashiwazaki/Kariwa, Niigata prefecture. Still offline due to 2007 Chuetsu Earthquake; no restart date.
- 4,000-MW, Kashima, Ibaraki oil-fired power station
- 2,000-MW, Hitachinaka, Ibaraki coal-fired power station
- 3,800-MW Hirono oil/coal-fired power station; Hirono, Fukushima prefecture
