Land O' Frost Has Selected a Site and Seeks General Contractor for New $49 Million Sliced Meat Plant in Kentucky

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Family owned lunch meat manufacturer, Land O' Frost Incorporated (Lansing, Illinois), has selected a site in Madisonville, Kentucky as the location for its third manufacturing plant.

To meet growing demand for the company's convenience foods and deli sliced lunch meats, plans are taking shape for the construction of a new 180,000 square foot plant on a 28.8-acre tract of land on the city's west side off U.S. 41-A, across from the General Electric plant on Nebo Road.

The company has been working with Carter & Burgess (Fort Worth, Texas) on engineering and design drawings and a prime general construction contractor will be selected by mid November of this year.

Some up front site preparation and grading activities are planned to get underway soon and building construction is scheduled to start around January or February of next year. The company will install meat processing, cooking, slicing, and packaging equipment and a cold storage facility for finished product storage.

Once the 15 month period of construction is completed, plans are to hire at least 200 employees to run the plant.

Land O' Frost at one time had 24 potential sites eyeballed in five states for the new plant and later narrowed the search to two sites in Arkansas and one in Kentucky. The decision to locate in Madisonville was made in August.

Land O' Frost brand is the sixth largest producer of retail lunch meats in the country. The family-owned company manufactures lunch and deli meats under the Dagwood's, Land O' Frost, Taste Escapes, and private label brand names. The company operates two other manufacturing plants in Lansing, Illinois and Searcy, Arkansas.
