Low-Price Tender Encourages French Offshore Wind Projects, an Industrial Info Market Brief

France's Ministry of Ecology has selected a consortium led by state-owned utility EDF to develop a 600-megawatt (MW) windfarm offshore Dunkirk, at a tariff below 50 euros (US$56) per megawatt-hour (MWh).

The strike price for the Dunkirk tender had been expected to be about 70 euros (US$79) per MWh. The relatively low actual price is encouraging France to increase its offshore wind-tendering target from about 600 MW to 1 gigawatt (GW) per year until 2028.
