Lucite International Makes Progress on New MMA Unit for Texas

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Lucite International Incorporated (Cordova, Tennessee), a subsidiary of Lucite International Limited (Southampton, England), will add a new MMA unit at its Nederland, Texas, plant. Aker Kvaerner has been selected to provide its licensed process technology for the 100,000-ton-per-year MMA unit addition. The new unit represents an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $75 million. Subcontractors for the project will be selected by the end of the year, and construction is planned for early next year.

Industrialinfo.com has been tracking this project for several years, as part of Industrialinfo.com's North American Industrial Database. When originally reported in May of 2000, the Nederland plant was operating under the name Ineos Acrylics, Limited.

Lucite's plans for a grassroot MMA plant in Nederland, Texas, have been postponed until its new unit is operational and market conditions can support more capacity. The grassroot plant had an estimated $150 million TIV.
