LNG
Marathon Seeks More Time for Alaska LNG Import Project - Marathon Petroleum Corporation's (NYSE:MPC) (Findlay, Ohio) Trans-Foreland Pipeline Company unit wants more time to convert the Kenai liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant in Alaska into an import terminal, U.S. energy regulators said on Monday. A Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) notice said that Trans-Foreland last week sought an extension until December 2025 to complete the facility. FERC approved Trans-Foreland's request to build the plant in December 2020 and gave the company until December 2022 to place it into service. PIPELINES
Canada to Return Repaired Nord Stream 1 Turbine - Canada will return a repaired turbine to Germany that is needed for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline and could help to ensure continued flows of energy until Europe can end its dependency on Russian gas, Canada's minister of natural resources said. Russia last month cited the delayed return of the turbine, which Germany's Siemens Energy (Munich) has been servicing in Canada, as the reason behind its reduction of flows to 40% of capacity through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline Russia to Germany. NATURAL GAS
U.S. Natural Gas Jumps 6.5% on Heat Wave - U.S. natural gas futures jumped 6.5% to a one-week high on Monday as power generators burned more of the fuel to keep air conditioners running during a heat wave that has boosted electric demand to record highs in several parts of the country. Texas' power grid operator warned of potential rolling blackouts amid predictions demand would hit all-time highs on Monday and Tuesday as homes and businesses crank up their air conditioners to escape the extreme heat. Front-month gas futures rose 39.2 cents to settle at $6.426 per million British thermal units, their higher close since June 29. (Reuters)
