Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $4.1 billion worth of industrial projects that are under construction in Missouri. Thanks in part to a large data center project, the Industrial Manufacturing Industry leads the state in terms of overall project value, followed in second position by the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry.
The large data center project referred to is the first phase of Meta Platforms Incorporated's (NASDAQ:META) (Menlo Park, California) three-phase project in Kansas City. Construction began in 2022 and entails building a 602,000-square-foot data center building that is planned to be completed in the first half of next year. A second phase of construction would add a similarly sized building and could kick off a few months after the completion of Phase I. The project at the moment also includes a possible third phase, which would add a third data hall and could potentially be completed by 2028. Other large projects coming under the Industrial Manufacturing Industry include the extension of a streetcar line on the Main Street route in Kansas City. The existing 2.2-mile line is being extended by 3.5 miles to include 15 new platforms and nine stations while providing greater options for future connections to regional transit. Work on the project began in 2021, and it is expected to be completed in early 2025. Subscribers can click here for more information.
After the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry takes second position for the value of projects under construction in the state, coming in at $1.2 billion of investment. Projects in this industry include the grassroot first phase of construction of what is envisioned to be $5 billion, 1.4 million-square-foot mixed-use development known as "The Glade" that will encompass lab space, offices, and residential, retail and greenhouse space. The first phase of construction entails adding a 125,000-square-foot LEED-certified building, including approximately 60,000 square feet of laboratory space, to house a single or multiple life-science companies, with a focus on genomics research. Construction began late last year and is expected to wrap up in the first half of 2024. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can click here for more details.
One of the biggest projects in Missouri also is one of the largest beef-slaughtering projects in the U.S. American Foods Group LLC (AFG) (Green Bay, Wisconsin) broke ground on its grassroot beef-processing plant in Wright City last year. Upon completion, which is expected next year, the approximately $800 million plant will be able to process 2,400 head of cattle per day and will add 1,300 jobs to the area. Construction on what is one of Missouri's largest power generation projects only recently kicked off. Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Black & Veatch Incorporated (Overland Park, Kansas) is at work on a solar facility for AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) (Arlington, Virginia) as part of an effort to add more renewable energy to AES' generation portfolio. The facility is being constructed on a 1,400-acre site and upon completion, which is expected in mid-2025, will have a nameplate generating capacity of 250 megawatts. As U.S. residents increasingly go online to have their shopping wants delivered to them at home, the demand for packaging materials has increased significantly. Bennett Packaging of Kansas City (Kansas City) is helping meet this demand with construction of a grassroot corrugated packaging manufacturing plant in Kansas City. An existing 172,000-square-foot warehouse is being renovated and a 332,000-square-foot new facility is going up that will include more than 212,000 square feet of manufacturing space and a 120,000-square-foot distribution center.
