Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Anhui Tianji Power Plant's 1,320-megawatt (MW), Phase II expansion project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on December 18, 2012, according to an announcement from Huaihu Coal Electricity Company Limited (Huainan, Anhui), the project owner and a 50:50 joint venture of Huainan Mining Group Company Limited (Huainan, Anhui) and Shanghai Electric Power Company Limited (Shanghai), on December 24.

The Tianji Power Plant is the first power plant built in the Huainan Coal and Power Base in Central China's Anhui province and is one of the main power source projects for the program to transmit power from Anhui to eastern China. The power plant has a total planned coal-fired capacity of 2,400 MW; and of this amount, there were two 600-MW units that were built in Phase I and were commissioned in July and October 2007, respectively. The Phase II expansion project will be furnished with two 660-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units, together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices on the reserved space of the existing plant area, with a total investment of about $750 million.

The construction of the project kicked off earlier this year. On October 24, 2012, the main powerhouse for the Phase II expansion moved above the ground level. The erection of the first steel beam for the boiler of Unit 4 was completed on November 17, 2012.

Anhui Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Company (AEPC1) (Hefei, Anhui) and Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company Limited (ZTPC) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) are responsible for the construction of the two units in Phase II. APEC1 is responsible for the construction of the main powerhouse and the installation of Unit 3, as well as associated common and auxiliary facilities. ZTPC is responsible for the construction and installation contract for Unit 4, its auxiliary equipment and the desulfurization system. According to the schedule, the project will be completed in 2014.
