Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--India's state-owned power enterprise North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) (Shillong, Meghalaya), whose business operations are largely restricted within the northeastern states of India, has firmed up plans to spread its horizon beyond the geographical limits of the country. The power utility is now scouting for a joint venture (JV) partner to explore opportunities in the hydro and thermal power sector abroad.
The company, which presently generates power from gas and hydel resources in the states of Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, has invited expressions of interest (EoI) from parties interested in developing hydro and thermal power projects of more than 25-megawatt (MW) capacity outside India in joint venture with the power utility.
According to NEEPCO, the company will short-list the prospective companies, which would also include JVs and consortiums, on the basis of the profile of the company and the status of the projects it offers. Subsequent to the completion of short-listing process, the corporation will invite the successful bidders to submit their proposals to float a joint venture company (JVC) with NEEPCO. Bidders interested to partner with NEEPCO should participate in the preliminary bidding round. The last date for submission of offer is June 28, 2013.
The scope of work for the proposed JVC will be the development of hydro and thermal power projects of above 25 MW capacity. This would involve survey and investigation, design, engineering, preparation of feasibility and detailed project reports, construction, generation, operation and maintenance and sale of power from such projects.
NEEPCO is a public sector undertaking (PSU) operating under the aegis of India's Union Ministry of Power. The corporation has so far executed five hydro electric projects and two gas-based power projects with a total installed capacity of 1,130 MW, which is approximately 55% of the total installed capacity of the northeastern India.
