Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $23.3 billion worth of industrial projects under construction in the New England market region, which includes Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Thanks to several large projects in Massachusetts, the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry leads the region in terms of the overall value of projects, with $11.7 billion of construction activity underway.

The Greater Boston, Massachusetts, area is a hotspot for Pharma-Biotech activity, boasting several multimillion-dollar projects in the sector. Among these is Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited's (Tokyo, Japan) construction of a research and development facility for oncology, hematology, neuroscience and gastroenterology at a brownfield site in Cambridge. The facility will be 16 stories with approximately 600,000 square feet, including 15,000 square feet of public space and a 400+-seat theater. Construction kicked off late last year and is expected to be completed in mid-2026. But New England is home to more than just pharmaceutical projects. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (Boston) is underway with the South Coast Rail Project, which will restore commuter rail service between Boston and southeastern Massachusetts. Cities that will gain commuter rail access include Taunton, Fall River and New Bedford. The project kicked off in 2014 and includes constructing 22.3 miles of new rail line, refurbishing and upgrading more than 47 miles of existing rail line, reconstructing 44 rail crossings and bridges, renovating six existing stations and constructing seven new stations. The project is expected to be completed later this year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here for the full report.

In Killingly, Connecticut, Frito-Lay Incorporated (Plano, Texas) is expanding its snacks production plant by increasing both warehousing and manufacturing space and installing two new production lines for its popular Cheetos products. General contractor The Haskell Company (Jacksonville, Florida) is expected to wrap up the project in the first half of next year. Also in Connecticut, General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE:GD) (Reston, Virginia) is expanding its submarine manufacturing plant and shipyard in Groton. The project entails the construction of the 200,000-square-foot South Yard Assembly Building and a new floating dry dock to facilitate construction of the U.S. Navy's new Columbia-Class submarine, a nuclear submarine designed to replace an existing class of ballistic missile submarines. The project got underway in 2019 and is expected to be completed next year. Subscribers can click here for more information.

The Food & Beverage sector is gaining ground in Rhode Island with the construction of a hydroponic greenhouse in Exeter by Rhode Island Grows LLC (Exeter). The 25-acre, high-tech facility will produce 14 million pounds per year of tomatoes for grocery stores in the Northeastern U.S. If the project proves successful, Rhode Island Grows intends to develop more greenhouse facilities in the state. The project kicked off in 2021 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Subscribers can click here for more details.

It seems no U.S. region is without its share of construction projects from Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington), and New England is no exception, with seven Amazon projects underway in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
