A majority of the new development is being driven by expansions of operational facilities and grassroot facilities in South America (mainly Brazil) and Africa, together accounting for approximately 79% (US$87 billion) of the total spending.

Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) plans to spend US$16.6 billion for the development of grassroot FPSOs in the Buzios Field in Brazil, across Phase VI through Phase XII. Click here for related project reports.

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company plans to invest about US$7 billion in the construction of offshore FPSO vessel facilities in Bonga and Zabazaba, each with a processing capacity of 150,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) of crude oil. Click here to read the project reports.

In Guyana, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana is investing about US$1.8 billion in the installation of an FPSO converted from a very large crude carrier (VLCC) tanker moored in the Yellowtail Field on the Guyana-Suriname Basin, with 250,000 BBL/d of processing capacity. Nearly 62% of the projects in the pipeline are in the early planning stage, around 27% are under construction, and 11% are undergoing engineering. According to current estimates, 50 of the 78 planned facilities are expected to start operations by the end of 2026, with the rest expected to complete construction in 2027 through 2030.
