North American Food and Beverage Industry's Milling Segment Pours More than $250 Million into Flour Mills

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Flour mills and related storage facilities across North America are operating at record levels, and plant owners are investing millions to keep pace with demand. Industrial Info has identified more than 20 capital projects with a combined investment value of more than $254 million that are taking place at flour milling facilities across the U.S. and Canada. Project plans include building a grassroot mill, expansions and modernizations, along with a number of major equipment replacements. Individual projects range in value from $1 million to $60 million.

In Canada, two projects combine for $62 million in project activity, while in the U.S., spending plans for 19 projects total $192 million.

The earliest construction date of the more than a dozen projects being tracked is scheduled for September 2013. Construction completion dates are as late as June 2015.

One example of the project expenditures being tracked by Industrial Info is a $38 million investment by Horizon Milling at a 22,250-hundredweight wheat flour facility in Saginaw, Texas. Key components of the projects include constructing a new processing building; replacing two hard wheat-milling units with two new units; expanding flour storage space by 8,000 hundredweight; increasing temper storage by 10,000 bushels; and the addition of a bin for wheat midds. The project is under construction and slated for completion this fall.

Industrial Info's online plant database comprises more than 6,900 major operational food and beverage plants and distribution centers across North America, including more than 100 flour mills and related facilities.

Industrial Info database of active capital and maintenance expenditures in the Food and Beverage Industry across North America and the Sugar Processing Industry and Water Desalination Segment worldwide has current expenditures of $43.6 billion and more than 2,100 active projects. The North American portion comes out to more than 1,400 active projects that total more than $25.2 billion.
