As a result, Ohio is the number one state in the Great Lakes market region, which, in addition to Ohio, includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin, for industrial development.

The Power Industry is number one in the state with 85 projects totaling $12.5 billion.

Low natural gas prices and Oil & Gas Industry development are driving project development for many industries, including the Chemical Processing Industry, which is currently ranked number 2 in the state with 97 projects totaling $5.9 billion. PCS Nitrogen Incorporated (Lima, Ohio) could start construction this year on a $150 million expansion of the company's ammonia unit at a fertilizer manufacturing plant in Lima, Ohio.

Oil & Gas Transmission and Production, combined with downstream Petroleum Refining accounts for 100 projects totaling $9.2 billion. M3 Midstream LLC (Durango, Colorado) began construction late last year on a $200 million natural gas processing plant near Leesville, Ohio. A number of processing plants are being built in the area to process shale gas from the Utica and Marcellus shale plays.
