Pacific Ethanol Magic Valley Starts Construction on Idaho Fuel Ethanol Plant

Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 50 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will consume over 19 million bushels of locally

Released Monday, May 21, 2007

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Pacific Ethanol Magic Valley LLC (Sacramento, California), a subsidiary of Pacific Ethanol Incorporated (NASDAQ:PEIX), has started construction and is pouring concrete on a new fuel ethanol plant that will be located in Burley, Idaho. The plant will be situated on a 177-acre parcel of land in south central Idaho at a site with direct transportation access to both the Union Pacific Railroad and Interstate 84.

Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 50 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will consume over 19 million bushels of locally grown corn annually. The company selected Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) as its design-build contractor and the firm is currently mobilizing equipment and subcontractors to the site. Construction is expected to take twelve to fourteen months to complete and start-up for the plant is expected during the summer of 2008.

The plant represents a capital investment of over $80 million.

Pacific Ethanol currently owns and operates a 35 million gallon per year plant in Madera, California that went into operation late last year. It also started construction on a 35 million gallon per year plant in Boardman, Oregon that is expected to be operational in the fall of 2007 and has plans to build another 50 million gallon per year plant in Stockton, California that could start construction any day now.

The company also has a 42% interest in the Front Range Energy ethanol plant operating in Windsor, Colorado that produces 30 million gallons of ethanol per year.
