Pacific Texas Pipeline Plans to Construct New Refined Products Pipeline to Serve Southwest Market

Pacific Texas Pipeline & Transportation Company (Phoenix, Arizona) is planning to construct a new refined products pipeline system to serve growing markets in Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. The proposed Pacific Texas Products Pipeline (PTPP) will originate near El Paso, Texas and extend approximately 425 miles to the west, terminating in the Phoenix, Arizona area. The pipeline will be 20 inches in diameter and will have an initial throughput capacity of 230,000 barrels per day (bpd) of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

The $440 million pipeline will be supported by five new pump stations, utilizing 5,000 horsepower electric drive motors and a new refined products storage terminal. The refined products storage terminal will be located in the Phoenix area and will have a storage capacity of 307,000 barrels. Pacific Texas Pipeline & Transportation Company has awarded Willbros Engineers Incorporated (Tulsa, Oklahoma) the engineering contract for the pipeline.

All things considered, construction on the new pipeline could begin as early as the second quarter of 2008, with a completion and in-service date targeted for some time in the first quarter of 2009.

A proposed second phase of the new pipeline will extend the pipeline system from Phoenix, Arizona to the Las Vegas, Nevada market. The 300 mile, 16 inch diameter extension would be supported by an additional three pump stations and a new refined products terminal near Las Vegas, Nevada.
