Peru: New LNG Tank to Supply Northern Region Natural Gas Demand

Researched by Industrial Info Research Latin America (Córdoba, Argentina)--Peru LNG (Lima, Peru) and consultancy company Agencia de Promoción de la Inversión Privada - Proinversion (Lima, Peru) have joined on a project to develop a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank to address demand in Peru's Northern Region.

The project includes the construction of a new cryogenic tank with an LNG storage capacity of 130,000 meters at the Pampa Melchorita Plant, which is located in Ica, Peru. This plant has been operational since 2010 and has a nominal production capacity of 4.4 million tons per year, with two cryogenic tanks that have a total storage capacity of 260,000 cubic meters.

Since the purpose of this project is to attend to the Northern Region's demand for natural gas, it also will be necessary to install a grassroot natural gas pipeline. The proposed 36-inch-diameter pipeline will run 200 kilometers from the Pampa Melchorita Plant to the city of Lima, and then will be connected to the existing natural gas system in order to take the natural gas to the Lima and Callao regions. Both projects are expected to be operational by 2016.
