Last year, Petrobras received capital approval for Rota 3. The pipeline will connect the Buzios offshore production field (Ex Franco Field) in the Santos Basin to the COMPERJ Refinery, which is under construction in Itaborai City, Rio de Janeiro State.
The pipeline project is in two phases: an offshore phase that is 325 kilometers long in shallow, deep and ultra-deep waters, and a 48-kilometer onshore phase between the cities of Marica and Itaborai.
Rota 3 will have a 21-cubic-meter-per-day natural gas transmission capacity. The gas will be treated in a planned processing unit inside the COMPERJ Refinery.
During the third quarter of this year, Petrobras expects to select an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) company for the project. The installation kick-off is scheduled for the last quarter of 2015.
Project completion is expected by the end of 2017, when operations are scheduled to begin on several platforms in the Buzios offshore field. For more information, see July 2, 2014, article - Brazil's Petrobras Begins FPSO Construction in Santos Basin.
The investment value of Rota 3 is about $1.4 billion.
Petrobras already operates an offshore pipeline, Rota 1, which transports natural gas from the Santos Basin to the Caraguatatuba Natural Gas Processing Plant in Sao Paulo State. The company is constructing another, Rota 2, which will transport natural gas from the Santos Basin to the Cabiunas Natural Gas Processing Plant in Rio de Janeiro State.
