Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Cordoba, Argentina)--The Plock Refinery, owned by Polski Koncern Naftowy (PKN) Orlen, one of the largest petroleum companies in Poland and Central Europe, will perform maintenance repairs on some of its processing units in June 2009.
PKN Orlen was created in September 1999 after the merger between PKN (formerly known as Petrochemia Plock, one of Poland's largest crude oil refiners and manufacturers of petrochemical products, and CPN, a supplier of motor fuels in Poland. PKN Orlen specializes in petrol, diesel, heating oil and jet fuel, as well as plastics. It operates seven refineries: three in Plock, Trzebinia and Jedlicze in Poland; three in Litvinov, Kralupy and Pardubice in the Czech Republic; and one in Mazeikiu, Lithuania.
The Plock Refinery performs planned shutdowns in its processing units every four years. The upcoming turnaround will be carried out in the Crude Distillation III (CDU III), Vacuum Distillation III, Hydrodesulfurization III and Claus V units. During the shutdown, a new heater will be installed in CDU III, and routine cleaning and maintenance work will be performed.
In May 2008, six of the facility's production units were shut down for 33 days for planned maintenance and modernization: the 5,000-standard-cubic-feet-per-day Hydrogen, Continuous Catalytic Reformer V, Fluid Cat Cracker II, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Desulfurization, Steam Cracker and Heavy Fuel Oil Blending units. The shutdown included the replacement and repair of several components of the units. During the shutdown, underground cooling water pipelines were reconstructed and a tank farm upgrade was completed.
