Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Plainfield Renewable Energy LLC (Norwalk, Connecticut), a subsidiary of Enova Energy Group (NYSE:ENA) (Atlanta, Georgia), and joint venture partner Decker Energy International Incorporated (Winter Park, Florida) are progressing with the development of their Plainfield Renewable Energy biomass power plant project, which will be in Plainfield, Connecticut. Steel is going up and equipment is being brought to the site daily for the estimated $225 million biomass project. The project is located on a 27-acre site that is about 14 miles northeast of Norwich, Connecticut.
Construction started early in 2012, and the 37.5-megawatt plant is expected to be completed by late 2013. When online, the plant will have the capacity to produce enough electricity for 37,000 homes.
The primary engineering, procurement and construction firm Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE:SAI) (McLean, Virginia) will construct the facility under a fixed-price, date-certain contract. McPhee Electric Limited (Farmington, Connecticut) is the primary electrical contractor and O'Connor Corporation (Canton, Massachusetts) was awarded a contract of more than $20 million to provide the gasifier, a heat recovery steam generator, a steam turbine manufactured by Alstom, and various piping and emissions control equipment.
Another Enova Energy subsidiary, Enova Wood Pellet Group, is developing a new wood fuel pellet mill in Waynesville, Georgia, that is expected to begin construction soon. The $115 million plant will produce 450,000 tons per year of wood pellets that will be exported through the Port of Savanna to European markets.
