Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--After eight years of development, the 37.5-megawatt (MW) Plainfield Renewable Energy LLC (Norwalk, Connecticut) plant in Plainfield, Connecticut, is in commercial production with joint-venture partner Decker Energy International Incorporated (Winter Park, Florida).
The project has changed hands many times throughout development, with Enova Energy initiating the plant. Leidos (NYSE:LDOS) (Reston, Virginia) took ownership of the plant in October last year and acted as the facility's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
Leidos, formerly known as Science Applications International Corporation (Norwalk, Connecticut), is involved with science and technology solutions in national security, health and engineering.
Anchor Engineering Services (Glastonbury, Connecticut) provided engineering services for the project. Contractor McPhee Electric (Farmington, Connecticut) aided in construction of the plant.
The estimated $225 million Class I project will use 960 tons per day of wood, which is mainly derived from construction and demolition waste that would otherwise be placed in landfills. Connecticut Light & Power will purchase 80% of the power from the plant, based on a 15-year off-take agreement.
