POET Plans First Corn Grind Today at New Indiana Fuel Ethanol Plant

The company held a grand-opening event over the weekend, marking the project’s completion. The plant is now fully staffed and ready to begin making ethanol.

Construction on the $105 million plant began a year ago and was built by POET Design & Construction, the in-house construction division of POET, formally known as Broin Associates. The plant will process 22 million bushels of locally grown corn annually to produce 65 million gallons per year of ethanol and 178,000 tons of distillers dried grains annually, a by-product of ethanol production.

The plant is on a 180-acre site at 2701 West Indiana Highway 67 in Portland about 75 miles northeast of Indianapolis. With the new plant, POET can produce more than 1.1 billion gallons of ethanol annually with 21 operational plants in the U.S.

POET also has additional plants under construction in Leipsic, Ohio, and Alexandria, Indiana. The company also plants to build new plants in Glenville, Minnesota; Fostoria and Marion, Ohio; and one in North Manchester, Indiana.
