Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--PolyOne Corporation (NYSE:POL) (Avon Lake, Ohio) continues to reshape and reorganize the company, an agenda it has aggressively pursued for the past several years. The reorganization of many of PolyOne's business units, including the color and PVC-compounding divisions, involved plant closures and capacity reductions. As part of the company's commitment to increase the diversity and capacity of its color concentrates, PolyOne is preparing to install up to four new production lines at three sites in Europe.

Two of these new lines, each 14 millimeter machines, will be installed at PolyOne's Assesse, Belgium, plant. A new line will be installed in the plants in Tossiat, France, and Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, France. The Tossiat plant currently operates with 12 production lines, and the Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône plant operates with an estimated 15 existing lines. Most of the major equipment for these additions has been purchased, some of which has already been delivered. Installation of the first line is expected to take place in Assesse in early October, with a new line being installed every three weeks, allowing the plan to be completely operational with each by the end of the year.

PolyOne is also in the early phases of planning and estimating for the addition of a very large compounding line at the company's Pamplona, Spain, plant. Approval for this project is expected early next year. Capital spending for the upcoming year in North America seems to be limited, as PolyOne continues to focus on consolidation. PolyOne has closed at least five compounding plants in the United States this year as part of these consolidation efforts, but the company still operates more then 20 production plants across North America, producing compounded plastics, resins and colors.
