Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Gulf Coast city of Port Arthur, Texas, is home to 19 projects with a cumulative value of $378 million set to kick off in the second half of this year. Known for its energy industry, the project spending for the latter half of 2016 is led by the Terminals Industry, followed by Petroleum Refining and Alternative Fuels.

The Terminals Industry has four projects worth $175 million. The largest is the $65 million grassroot unit train crude oil terminal owned by Kansas City Southern Railway Company, a unit of Kansas City Southern (NYSE:KSU). The project is set to kick off in November, with completion slated for August 2017.

The Petroleum Refining Industry has seven projects worth $97 million, including three planned Tier 3 gasoline hydrotreater unit upgrades, each worth $20 million. The projects would include upgrades at Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA Incorporated's (Houston, Texas), 50,000 barrel-per-day (BBL/d) unit, to kick off in October and be completed January 2017; Valero Energy Corporation's (NYSE: VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) 66,000 BBL/d unit, set to kick off in September with completion in January of next year; and Motiva Enterprises LLC's (Houston) 67,000 BBL/d unit, with kickoff in September and completion in January.

The Alternative Fuels Industry has one project worth $82 million. This grassroot renewable diesel refinery, owned by Emerald Biofuels LLC (Chicago, Illinois), will consist of a production building and a processing reactor, along with supporting equipment, for the purpose of producing 82 million gallons per year of green diesel transportation fuel and 13 million gallons per year of refined co-products from natural oils, waste grease and animal fats.
