Powerball Plans to Construct New Production Unit in Wyoming

Powerball International Incorporated (PTI) (Salt Lake City, Utah), a privately held company, plans to construct a new production unit at the site of FMC Corporation (NYSE: FMC) (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) in Green River, Wyoming utilizing some existing assets. PTI is proposing to construct a production unit that will produce sodium hydride under the trade name "Powerballs" and FMC will operate the unit under a joint venture agreement.

Powerballs are used as fuel pellets for the generation and production of hydrogen when the plastic protective coating surrounding it is broken or cut in the presence of water. A gallon of Powerballs has the potential to produce hundreds of gallons of hydrogen. "There is a large market potential for this product as the demand for hydrogen continues to be the leading industrial gas," commented Trey Hamblet, Chemical Group Manager with Industrialinfo.com. PTI currently operates a pilot scale production unit and is pursuing plans to construct a semi commercial scale production unit in Belgium in a joint venture with Solvay.

PTI has uniquely developed the technology to produce Powerballs and some portions of the process are similar to ethylene cracking and use large furnaces. The completion of the unit at Green River would be the first large scale production unit and play a significant role in PTI's ability to demonstrate its technology on a commercial scale and begin to realize its growth plans.
