Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--After a detailed review and discussion among 11 specialty groups, the preliminary engineering report for Datang Leizhou Power Plant's 2,000-megawatt (MW) grassroot project, prepared by Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (GEPDI) (Guangzhou, Guangdong), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), recently passed examination from an expert panel, according to an announcement from the CEEC on July 30, 2013.

The Datang Leizhou Power Plant, located in Wushi Town of Leizhou City in South China's Guangdong Province, is invested by Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing) (SH.601991), the listed flagship of China Datang Corporation (Beijing). The power plant has a total planned capacity of 6,000 MW to be built in three phases. According to the preliminary engineering, the project will be furnished with two 1,000-MW, high-efficiency, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units in the initial stage. With optimization on the overall layout, as well as various specialty sub-systems, major technical indicators of the project, including generation coal consumption, plant service water and electricity consumption, are all at an advanced level among similar units in China.

The project received preliminary approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), with consent to kick off pre-stage preparation in late 2012. On November 23, 2012, the three major turbine, generator and boiler (TGB) equipment contracts for Phase I were awarded to the three specialty subsidiaries of Harbin Electric Corporation (Harbin, Heilongjiang).

On June 13, 2013, the kickoff ceremony for the construction of the power plant's access road was held at the project site in Leizhou City. Pre-stage works, such as land acquisition and sea reclamation, have fully kicked off. According to the schedule, both units of the project will begin operations in 2015.
