Qatar Energy (Doha, Qatar) is one of the biggest investors in the nation as it owns and operates a large number of chemical manufacturing facilities through its various subsidiaries and partners. Qatar Energy and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC's (The Woodlands, Texas) planned 1.9 million-tonne-per-year ethane cracker is scheduled to start production by 2026; it is considered to be the Middle East's largest cracker and one of the biggest in the world.
Qatar Energy recently awarded a lump-sum contract to Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) (Marousi, Greece) to prepare the proposed site for the cracker; the contract for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) is expected to be awarded in the next few months.
