Reo Town Power Station Begins Commercial Operations in Lansing, Michigan

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Lansing Board of Water & Light's (BWL) (Lansing, Michigan) 109.4-megawatt (MW) Reo Town Power Station (Lansing) is beginning commercial operations.

The Reo Town Cogeneration Station began construction in 2011 and utilizes natural gas as its primary fuel. Reo Town is equipped with two 45-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) combined-cycle combustion turbines; one 18-MW Elliot steam turbine; and one 1.04-MW Caterpillar Incorporated (NYSE:CAT) emergency generator. Each combustion turbine is attached to a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) manufactured by Innovative Steam Technologies.

The facility also was the restoring of the old Grand Trunk Western Railroad Depot. The Christman Company (Lansing, Michigan) built the facility and Burns & Roe (Oradell, New Jersey) served as the engineer. This is the first cogeneration plant for BWL, and it will help reduce the company's dependence on coal to meet electricity needs.
