Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) has launched a bidding process to develop another 7.2 gigawatts (GW) of natural gas-fired combined-cycle independent power stations that incorporates carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology. The SPPC indicated that the total capacity will be divided into four projects in the central and eastern regions of the country. Each region will have two projects of 1.8 GW.

In November 2023, the SPPC awarded 7.2 GW of similar technology in the form of the Rumah and Nairyah projects. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can click here for the related project reports.

Saudi Arabia is aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. According to the Ministry of Energy, Saudi Arabia may eventually deploy CCS at all of its fossil fuel-fired plants and projects.
