Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Northern China's Shanxi Province will invest $1.37 billion in grid construction in 2008, according to the Annual Working Conference of Shanxi Electric Power Company (Taiyuan, China) held on January 22, 2008, in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province.
In 2008, capacity expansions will make up the biggest portion of the grid construction in Shanxi. In order to accelerate the implementation of the 11th five-year plan (2006-10) of Shanxi's grid and for social and economic development, the Shanxi Electric Power Company has proposed completing construction by the end of 2008.
The total planned investment for the grid construction in Shanxi during the 11th five-year plan is $5.23 billion. In 2008, the total investment will reach $1.37 billion of which most will be used for new construction or substation expansions. In 2008, the province will start construction on 1,481 kilometers of transmission lines and 10,860 megavolt-amperes (mVA) of transformer capacity. The province will put 1,890 kilometers of transmission lines and 14,460 mVA of transformer capacity into operation at the 220-kilovolt (kV) level or above, including 12 transmission and substation projects at the 500-kV level. In addition, the province will build four electrified counties, 39 electrified towns and 500 electrified villages in 2008.
Shanxi's grid is one of the largest provincial grids in China. In 2007, the accumulated sales of electricity of Shanxi Electric Power Company surpassed 100 billion kilowatt-hours. Up until the end of 2007, the grid had 10 substations, 15 main transformers with a total capacity of 11,250 mVA, and 4,482 kilometers of transmission lines at the 500-KV level.
