Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--One of the fastest-growing segments of the U.S. Industrial Manufacturing Industry is the market for semiconductors and computers, where domestic manufacturers are seeing particularly strong results in areas related to the energy transition. Industrial Info is tracking nearly $4.5 billion worth of active and planned projects in the U.S. semiconductor and computer segment that are set to begin construction through the end of March, nearly $2 billion of which are attributed to the production of solar panels and wafers.
Click on the image at right for a graph detailing U.S. semiconductor and computer projects set to kick off in the first quarter, by project type.
Among the companies developing solar cells and panels is Vikram Group (Jaipur, India), which formed a joint venture last year with private-equity firm Phalanx Impact Partners (New York, New York) and real-estate firm Das & Company (New York, New York) that aims to invest up to $1.5 billion in a vertically integrated, U.S.-based solar-manufacturing operation. Its first priority is a $250 million solar photovoltaic (PV) module-manufacturing facility in Brighton, Colorado, that would produce up to 2 gigawatts (GW) of modules each year; a proposed expansion, which would not begin until mid-2026 at the earliest, could double capacity.
"VSK Energy is highly committed to developing a resilient American solar panel and equipment supply chain and reducing U.S. dependence on foreign suppliers who currently dominate the solar market," VSK said in a press release. The company cited Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who said the project will bolster the state's plans "to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2040."

Other foreign-based solar manufacturers pursuing project kickoffs next quarter include Silfab Solar Incorporated (Mississauga, Ontario), which is preparing for the $150 million renovation of its PV module-manufacturing plant in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Bila Solar Limited (Singapore), which is planning a $50.9 million revamp of its PV module-manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, Indiana. Both facilities are manufacturing modules for the U.S. market. Subscribers can read detailed reports on the South Carolina and Indiana projects.
U.S.-based manufacturers of solar cells include Calypso Energy (Chicago, Illinois), which is overhauling a facility formerly owned by Caterpillar Incorporated (NYSE:CAT) (Deerfield, Illinois) into a $35 million addition to its module-manufacturing complex in Montgomery, Illinois. The Montgomery Village Board unanimously backed the project last summer, and construction is expected to wrap up by the end of the year. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.
"Green energy is really at the forefront of everything at this point," one Montgomery Village Board member told local media. "And going into the grid--it's a great place for it to go, because that was a heavy manufacturing area."
Deep in the heart of Texas, several electronics companies are expanding or renovating their facilities to address rising demand, including telecommunication services provider ZT Systems. The company is preparing for a renovation of its server plant in Georgetown, Texas, to better address the increasing demand for cloud-computing and AI-driven applications. Subscribers can learn more from Industrial Info's project report.
New York could see two major renovations kick off before the end of the quarter at a pair of electronic-component plants: Menlo Microsystems Incorporated's (Irvine, California) microelectronics fabrication facility in Lansing, which produces metal and glass electronic switches, and Comtest Networks Incorporated's (Nepean, Ontario) electronic connectors manufacturing plant in Ogdensburg. Subscribers can read detailed reports on the Lansing and Ogdensburg projects.
