South Louisiana Methanol started site preparation at the end of 2018 on a new plant in Saint James, Louisiana, to produce 5,300 metric tons per day of methanol. But the company has since put the project on hold.

Joint-venture partners Todd Corporation, ZEEP and SABIC are working to restart the project, but they do not yet have a timeline.

Industrial Info is tracking 12 methanol projects in the U.S. and Canada, worth a total of about $12 billion, classified as "on hold."
