Subcontractor Packages Going Out for Grassroot Sour Cream Plant In Arizona

Touted as the largest sour cream producer in the U.S., privately held Daisy Brand, LP (Dallas, Texas) has started construction on a new $40 million plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. Daisy recently awarded The Dennis Group (Solana Beach, California) a design-build contract for the production building, while Daisy is retaining responsibility for procurement and installation of all the plant’s process equipment.

The new plant is being built on a 35.76-acre parcel, located at the northwest corner of Ash Street and Shultz Street in Pinal County. The building will be a 200,000 square-foot structure constructed of masonry and insulated metal panels. The project contains buildings within buildings ranging from 40 to 80 feet tall and will contain an elevated tank farm within the structure.

Preliminary site work has commenced with major construction planned for April/May. Dennis Group contracted Stone Bridge Iron & Steel, Incorporated (Gansevoort, New York) to provide structural steel, joist, decking for the building as well as the erection work. The arrival of the structural steel is anticipated by the end of July. Dennis expects to release design-build contracts in the upcoming weeks for fire protection system and a combined HVAC and mechanical package. Equipment installation will begin in the fall and the plant is scheduled to become fully operational in early 2008.
