Leading integrated oil sands processor Suncor Energy Incorporated (NYSE:SU) (Calgary, Alberta) is continuing with a wide variety of capital expenditures at its hydrocarbon refining operations to meet future projected growth. Suncor operates two refining operations in Canada. The Fort McMurray Upgrader, which upgrades bitumen from the company's oil sands mining operations in Alberta, and the Sarnia Refinery located in Sarnia, Ontario.
Over the past several years Industrialinfo.com has tracked over 72 projects at Suncor refineries. This activity is a result of Suncor's ambitious expansion programs, which have included the recently completed $3.4 billion Project Millennium, and future expansion programs Firebag and Voyageur. Through these expansions, Suncor hopes to increase capacity from a current 200,000 barrels a day up to 500,000 barrels a day by 2010.

Ongoing projects at the Fort McMurray Upgrader include delayed coker unit addition and upgrades, fractionator replacement, sulfur recovery unit additions, a hydrotreater, and hydrocracker unit additions to name a few.
